Working With a Broker or Advisor on a Financing Request
Many financing requests involve more than the borrower and the lender. A mortgage broker, an accountant, a lawyer or an insurance advisor may each play a role. Involving them well makes the process faster and the outcome better understood.
Clarify roles early
Decide who is leading the conversation with the lender and who is providing information. State each professional’s role and how they are compensated. Broker and advisor fees, where they apply, should be disclosed and understood before a transaction proceeds.
Share information with permission
Your advisors can only act within the authority you give them. Confirm what information they may share with a lender and provide written permission where needed. A general scenario can often be discussed without identifying anyone; personal, financial or policy details require consent.
Keep one version of the facts
Conflicting figures from different advisors slow a review. Agree the amount, purpose, timing, security and repayment plan among the team before the request goes to a lender, and update everyone when something changes.
Use their expertise on the structure
Where a transaction touches tax, legal or insurance questions, your advisors should review the proposed structure before you commit. Coordination keeps financing decisions connected to the wider plan rather than made in isolation.
